Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Vancouver Island is seeking people to participate in a Job Creation Project from January 19, 2009 to September 19, 2009.

Participants must be EI eligible and the work of the project must fit their Return to Work Action Plan. The project activities will encompass the implementation of internal and external research methodologies with a goal to gather information to improve the programs and services of our organizations.

Participants will need to have strong people skills, organizational skills and basic computer skills (experience in Excel is beneficial). Participants will learn about mentoring, public speaking, program evaluation and research. In addition the project will provide community networking opportunities.

Purpose:
Cowichan Tribes seeks a Manager to oversee a fully licensed childcare facility, which runs pre-school, full daycare, and school age programs. It is our goal to provide top quality childcare for all children while fostering healthy development through our creative programming.

Responsibilities:
Supervises staff and supports their professional development through performance management and dispute resolution and ensures that staff credentials remain current
Leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of the daycare program’s activities with a strong focus on Aboriginal Headstart priorities and Cowichan culture
Ensures compliance with Vancouver Island Health Authority Licensing Regulations
Prepares operational reports regarding staff, facility and service usage and
Manages financial resources by preparing budgets, monitoring and controlling related costs and expenditures; purchasing equipment and supplies to assigned spending limit; and seeking out alternate sources of funding.
Supports and promotes communication with community members, program users, parents and staff; investigates and resolves program delivery or other problems as required. 
Other duties as required.

Qualifications:
Early Childhood Educator License with Infant and Toddler and Special Needs designations
Minimum of 5-7 years of demonstrated classroom and supervisory experience
In-depth knowledge of Vancouver Island Health Authority Licensing Regulations, Aboriginal Headstart priorities, and financial management processes
Excellent leadership skills with proven ability to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate early childhood education programs
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Excellent knowledge of financial management processes
Criminal Record Check required.
